FALL PROTECTION & PREVENTION; AUTHORIZED PERSON
4 hour training program
Introduction:
This course addresses the basics of fall protection in a manner that allows the end user to better understand their equipment and their fall protection applications.
The program briefly reviews the current regulatory requirements, the components of a fall protection system and the critical concepts when using fall protection equipment.
This course tends to focus more on the hands-on exercises where the participants will each inspect, don and learn how to fit a full body harness. Participants will also handle and become familiar with a variety of anchor connectors, shock absorbing lanyards and retractables.
Training Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify fall hazards and outline examples of fall prevention versus fall protection, including Fall Restraint, Positioning and Fall Arrest.
- Identify key components (referred to as the ABC’s) of fall protection equipment.
- Describe legislative requirements for fall prevention and protection.
- Understand how to calculate fall clearance distance.
- Outline methods to minimize fall arrest forces.
- Demonstrate proper inspection, donning and use of a full body harness as well as associated equipment (i.e. fixed lanyards, self-retracting lanyards, cross-arm straps, etc.).
Target Audience:
- Workers and Associates who use fall protection equipment.
- Managers and Supervisors of associates using fall protection equipment.
Course Length and Options:
This is a half-day (4-hour) awareness level program. The program is offered on-site and can be designed to utilize the client’s fall protection equipment as well as their site-specific procedures.
Class Size:
Minimum 20 participants per class x 2 class/day
Successful completion of this program will require participants to pass a written test.
FALL PROTECTION & PREVENTION; COMPETENT PERSON – REFRESHER
8 hour training program
Introduction:
This 8-hour program is an extension of our 4-hour Authorized Person session, providing an extensive review of current regulatory requirements as well as an introduction to fall prevention applications.
This training program addresses the basics of fall protection, but does so in a manner that allows the managing supervisor as well as the end user to make better decisions regarding fall protection.
Training Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify fall hazards and outline examples of fall prevention versus fall protection, including Fall Restraint, Positioning and Fall Arrest.
- Identify key components (referred to as the ABC’s) of fall protection equipment.
- Describe legislative requirements for fall prevention and protection.
- Understand how to calculate fall clearance distance.Outline methods to minimize fall arrest forces.
- Demonstrate proper inspection, donning and use of a full body harness as well as associated equipment (i.e. fixed lanyards, self-retracting lanyards, cross-arm straps, etc.).
Target Audience:
- Workers and Associates who use fall protection equipment on a regular basis.
- Personnel that supervise working at height activities.
- Personnel seeking competency in fall protection.
Course Length and Options:
The program is designed on a multimedia platform, combining discussions and question-and-answer sessions with workshops and hands-on exercises.
Class Size:
Minimum 20 participants per class
All courses require the participant to pass a written evaluation in order to receive their certificate of completion.
The program may be offered on site and can be designed to utilize the client’s fall protection equipment or generic fall protection equipment.
FALL PROTECTION & PREVENTION; COMPETENT PERSON
16 hour training program
Introduction:
This course is designed for managers and supervisors of workers who use fall protection equipment.
The first day of this course utilizes the Competent Person 1-day program material. Day 2 involves a detailed analysis of the regulatory requirements and related fall protection standards, as well as covering hazard recognition, equipment inspection and a theoretical review of rescue.
Training Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify fall hazards and outline examples of fall prevention versus fall protection, including; Fall Restraint, Positioning and Fall Arrest.
- Identify key components (referred to as the ABC’s) of fall protection equipment and describe legislative requirements for fall prevention and protection.
- Understand how to calculate fall clearance distance and outline methods to minimize fall arrest forces.
- Recognize fall hazards and determine corrective actions.
- Identify the key elements of a rescue program.
- Demonstrate proper inspection, donning and use of a full body harness as well as associated equipment (i.e. fixed lanyards, self-retracting lanyards, cross-arm straps, etc.).
Target Audience:
- Workers and associates who would use fall protection equipment on a regular basis.
- Supervisors and managers of associates working at height.
- Those seeking competency in fall protection.
Course Length and Options:
This is a 2-day (16-hour) Competent Person Training Program.
The program may be offered on-site and can be designed to utilize the client’s fall protection equipment and site-specific. This program may also be presented in a train-the-trainer format.
Class Size:
Minimum 20 participants per class
Successful completion of this program will require participants to pass a written test.
FALL PROTECTION & PREVENTION; TRAIN-THE-TRAINER
3 day training program
Introduction:
Falling from heights is the number one cause of death in construction and the number two cause of death in general industry. In consideration of these devastating statistics as well as clear legal requirements for protecting workers, the need for an effective Working at Heights (WAH) program is critical within any organization.
An effective WAH program has a number of core components, including policies and procedures, proper selection / use of equipment and effective worker training.
This Train-The-Trainer (TTT) Program provides the participants with advanced technical knowledge of fall protection and prevention issues as well as the soft skills required to effectively deliver a training program.
Training Objectives:
Upon completion of this training program, participants will:
- Understand when a fall hazard existsIdentify fall prevention & fall protection options.
- Identify core components of fall protection systems.
- Understand applicable legislative requirements.
- Be able to calculate fall clearances.
- Understand how to minimize fall arrest forces.
- Demonstrate competency with equipment inspectionIdentify challenges and options for a rescue program.
- Understand and apply key concepts in effective training techniques, including preparation of a training plan, classroom set-up, effective communication and adult learning techniques.
Target Audience:
This program is designed for individuals requiring an advanced level of knowledge of WAH issues as well as those required to provide training on WAH. Specifically, this may include:
- Technical Trainers
- Managers or Supervisors
- Safety Specialists
- Safety Committee Members
Course Length and Options:
This is a 3-day program (total of 24 hours of class time) that will encompass classroom lectures and workshops, hands-on use of equipment and mock presentations (by all participants) of fall protection training.
The program may be customized to reflect the client’s fall protection equipment as well as client-specific procedures. Clients may choose to develop their own WAH training program following the training session or purchase a (customized) training program from STACS Inc.
FALL PROTECTION AND PREVENTION; EQUIPMENT INSPECTION
8 hour training program
Introduction:
This course is designed for personnel responsible to conduct or oversee inspections of fall protection equipment.
This one-day program encompasses the development of inspection standards, a review of applicable legislative requirements and industry best practices as well as practice with hands-on exercises.
As part of the workshops, participants will inspect anchorage systems, harnesses and connecting devices to determine if the components are in a safe and useable condition.
Training Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Outline legislative requirements for inspection.
- Develop site-specific inspection standards.
- Identify damaging practices, modifications and trends.
- Determine if the components of a fall protection / prevention system are used in a proper and safe manner.
- Identify the service life of fall protection / prevention system components.
Target Audience:
- Workers and Associates who are responsible for inspecting the components of a Personal Fall Protection System.
- Supervisors and Managers of staff who use Fall Protection Equipment.
Course Length and Options:
This is a full-day (8-hour) Competent Person Inspection program.
The program may is offered on-site and can be tailored to use the client’s fall protection equipment rather than a generic set of equipment.
This program may also be presented in a train-the-trainer format.
Class Size:
Maximum 20 participants
Successful completion of this program will require participants to pass a written test.
FALL PROTECTION AND PREVENTION; RESCUE FROM HEIGHTS
8 hour training program
Introduction:
Properly equipping a worker with the knowledge and equipment required to work at heights is only the first step. Although every effort must be made to ensure a worker does not fall, the fact is that falls can (and will) occur.
In too many cases, the lack of an effective rescue plan, rescue equipment and personnel trained on rescue places the fallen worker as well as the would-be rescuers at further risk.
This course addresses the basics of rescue from heights in a manner that allows the participants to better understand the proper use and practical application of rescue equipment as well as different rescue protocols.
Training Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the legal requirements related to rescuing a fallen worker.Inspect their rescue equipment.
- Understand key rescue issues, including the importance of timing, selection of equipment, medical issues, organizational issues and rescue planning.
- Identify, review and evaluate rescue protocols.
- Practice mock rescue workshops.
Target Audience
- Workers and Associates who use fall protection and rescue equipment.
- Supervisors and Managers of workers and associates who use fall protection and rescue equipment.
- Workers and associates who may require rescue from an elevated work location.
Course Length and Options:
This is a full-day (8-hour) program. It can be designed to utilize the client’s fall protection rescue equipment, policies and procedures or generic rescue equipment / protocols.
Class Size:
Maximum 20 participants
This course includes both a theoretical component and practical mock rescue workshops. Successful completion of this program will require participants to pass a written test.
